The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has provided an update on the proposed waste management facility in Dresden.
“As previously communicated, on March 26, 2024, Chatham-Kent received notice from the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks regarding a posting to the Environmental Registry of Ontario (ERO),” Municipal officials said in a media release on April 10, 2024.
“The Government of Ontario is now considering making a Regulation under the Environmental Assessment Act to designate the landfill and waste processing facility proposed by York1 Environmental Waste Solutions Ltd. as a project subject to a comprehensive environmental assessment. Municipal officials added: “This project proposed by York1 was initially posted to the ERO as two separate proposals to amend existing Environmental Compliance Approvals for a landfill and waste processing facility at the same property. On February 26, 2024 Council requested that Mayor Canniff author a letter to the Minster of Environment, Conservation and Parks outlining community concerns and Council’s opposition to the proposed waste management facility. Also, as directed by Council, Chatham-Kent submitted comments to the Ministry on March 15, 2024 regarding the waste processing facility, which can be found here: https://www.letstalkchatham-kent.ca/42320/widgets/176727/documents/125883.”
The Municipality has now completed the second submission in response to the landfill proposal ERO posting, which has a deadline of April 11, 2024 for submitting comments, Municipal officials say.

“In addition, the Municipality will also be commenting on the latest ERO positing prior to the May 10, 2024 deadline,” Municipal officials added.
