Walpole Island’s Nash Jacobs drafted by the OHL’s Saginaw Spirit

Walpole Island’s Nash Jacobs was drafted by the Saginaw Spirit in Round 8, 161st overall, in this past weekend’s 2024 OHL Priority Selection.

Saginaw Spirit officials say Jacobs comes from the Chatham-Kent Cyclones U16 AAA program, adding he’s a tall, rangy winger, who was reliable for the Cyclones with 19 points, 10 goals and nine assists, in 26 games this past season.

“Nash is a big winger, really strong,” said Adam Simpson, a scout for the Spirit, in a news release.

“When he fills out, he’s going to be a really dominant force up and down the ice. He’s got soft hands, especially for a bigger player.”

Wallaceburg Minor Hockey Association officials were quick to congratulate Jacobs, who is one of their alumni.

“WMHA Wallaceburg Minor Hockey Association could not be more proud to congratulate former Laker, Nash Jacobs on being drafted to the Saginaw Spirit in the Ontario Hockey League,” Wallaceburg Minor Hockey officials posted on social media.

“Congratulations Nash on this exciting milestone in your hockey career. Hard work, perseverance, commitment and sacrifice from both you and your family have paved the way for this next chapter and we are so excited to cheer you on in the OHL.”

Spirit officials say Jacobs upped his scoring during the postseason with Chatham-Kent, scoring four goals in five playoff games.
