Good Samaritan in Chatham-Kent helps OPP reunite a missing person with their family

OPP officials allege: The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Chatham Detachment wish to thank a member of the public whose quick thinking helped reunite a missing person with their family.

On May 4, 2024, at approximately 5:45 p.m., members of the OPP were dispatched to the westbound Highway 401 near Communication Road, Municipality of Chatham-Kent for a report of a vehicle broken-down by the road.

A Good Samaritan stopped to assist a motorist at the side of the road.

Upon speaking to the driver, the individual determined the motorist needed additional assistance and contacted the Chatham Detachment.

Investigating officers determined that a family member of the 82-year-old from Waubaushene had contacted the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment at approximately 4:10 p.m. the same day to report the individual as missing.

The missing individual was assessed and transported to a local hospital by Emergency Medical Services (EMS) as a precaution.

The police want to thank the Good Samaritan for their assistance.

As a direct result of their assistance and subsequent phone call, the missing individual was located, and the family notified of their loved one’s whereabouts.
