Machine gun style airsoft gun fired toward encampment in Sarnia

Sarnia Police Service officials allege: On May 9th 2024 two individuals were erecting a small encampment behind a business between Confederation Street and Michener Road in Sarnia.

At approximately 10:14 p.m. a man contacted police to have the encampment removed, expressing concerns about potential vandalism to his own nearby property.

At 11 p.m., he again contacted police with concerns about delayed response, and that he would be taking matters into his own hands.

At this time the male armed himself with a machine gun style airsoft gun, and began shooting pellets in the direction of the encampment.

No one was hit or injured.

Police arrived at 11:15 p.m., and observed the man to be verbally agitated about the response time (due to call volume).

He entered his truck and began driving erratically, squealing tires and flashing his light at police.

He abruptly parked, entered his shop, and refused to come out.

Police secured the perimeter and maintained communication with him.

At 12:49 a.m. the man surrendered to police and was arrested.

On May 10, 2024, a Criminal Code search warrant was executed on his business property and vehicle.

Police located and seized the involved airsoft gun (depicted above).

The 31-year-old Sarnia man has been charged with the following offences:

– Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose

– Criminal Harassment

– Driving while Under Suspension (HTA)

He was later released on a Form 10 Undertaking (with conditions), and a court date of June 11, 2024.
