CKHA welcomes four new physicians

Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA) is welcoming four new physicians.

Dr. Khaldoun Sallam joins the Pediatric Department, Dr. Andrew Helt joins as an Associate in Critical Care and Emergency Department, and Dr. Mabruk Alafshuk and Dr. Michael Okoye both join CKHA’s Hospitalist team.

“We are delighted to welcome four new physicians to CKHA,” said Dr. Zeke Milkovic, Acting Chief of Staff at CKHA, in a press release.

“Their diverse backgrounds and extensive experience will further strengthen our ability to deliver high-quality healthcare services to the residents of Chatham-Kent. We look forward to the positive impact they will make on our patients and community.”

Dr. Sallam joins CKHA as a Pediatrician with specialized training in neonatal-perinatal medicine. With a Doctor of Medicine degree and Board certification in Pediatrics from Syria, Dr. Sallam brings almost a decade of experience working as a Pediatrician across multiple countries including Syria, Qatar, and Dubai.

His extensive training includes Fellowships in Neonatal Perinatal Medicine from the University of Calgary and McMaster University.

Dr. Sallam is excited to bring his expertise to CKHA and looks forward to contributing to improving patient care and outcomes.

He and his family are delighted to call Ontario their new home.

“CKHA has a renowned reputation for providing comprehensive and compassionate care to children in the community, as well as a collaborative teamwork and supportive work environment. With my years of work and training in Pediatrics and Neonatal-perinatal medicine in many centers and countries, I hope to contribute to improving patient care and outcomes at CKHA.”

Dr. Helt is a Canadian-trained Fellow of both Emergency Medicine and Critical Care Medicine with official Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC) designation.

Dr. Helt completed a Doctor of Medicine at Western University, followed by an Emergency Medicine Residency and a Critical Care Medicine Fellowship at Queens’s University.

In 2022, Dr. Helt joined CKHA part-time in Critical Care as the Intensivist on duty and has now officially committed to joining the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Emergency Departments on a full-time, permanent basis.

With over two decades of Internal Medicine practice experience, Dr. Alafshuk has a strong background in providing comprehensive care to patients.

Educated in Libya and further trained in Cardiology in the United Kingdom, Dr. Alafshuk is excited to continue his medical journey in Chatham-Kent.

His passion for patient recovery and commitment to providing exceptional care make him a valuable addition to CKHA’s medical staff.

“I chose Chatham as a second home because of its nature, good weather, and the welcoming people. I enjoy seeing my patients, and I am excited to join CKHA as an Internal Medicine specialist. Nothing makes me happier than seeing my patients recovering,” said Dr. Alafshuk, in a media release.

Dr. Okoye brings his expertise in Internal Medicine to CKHA after completing his medical training in Nigeria and Ireland.

A Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada, Dr. Okoye is passionate about medical education and plans to open an Internal Medicine clinic in the community focusing on Respirology and General Internal Medicine.

His dedication to patient well-being and commitment to medical learning make him an invaluable asset to CKHA’s Internal Medicine and Hospitalist teams.
