Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Three 20-year-old men had left a local establishment shortly after midnight and were walking on King Street in Chatham.
In the area of King and Fourth, a second group of unknown men confronted the pedestrians and a fight took place. The groups did not know each other.
After the disturbance finished, an officer who was patrolling the area was approached and advised of the assault.
Several officers responded to the area and were not able to locate the suspects.
One male was taken to hospital to be treated for his injuries.
The incident is currently under investigation.
