Municipality of Chatham-Kent has approved a $3.8-million transitional cabin project.
Council gave the green light to following staff recommendations at their Monday, September 9, 2024, meeting:
– The proposal in the amount of $2,295,030.00 (including HST) for the supply and installation of the structures, 50 cabins, one community building, one washroom pavilion, one security cabin and one utility cabin, associated with the Transitional Housing Program be awarded to NOW Housing.
– The Mayor and Clerk be authorized to sign the necessary agreements.
– The total capital costs of the project, $3,801,697.43 (net of HST rebate and Building Faster Fund (BFF) funding), inclusive of the estimated pre-site development work, cabin procurement, and installation costs, be funded through the issuance of a 15-year internal debenture, with the final debenture amount determined post-completion and netted with any upper-level funding received.
“As part of the pre-site development process, it was determined that the adjacent 396 Park Street, Chatham property would help with site servicing, storm water management, storage, and staff office space needs, a staff report indicates.
“Administration acquired this property to help mitigate those constraints and offset costs related to constructing office space and parking requirements. This property will also help ensure that the approved Park Street Chatham cabin location property would be able to contain the 50 cabins needed for the Transitional Homeless Cabin project.”
