Agriculture Awareness Day to be held at Brigden Fairgrounds on October 11

The Brigden Fairgrounds will host Agriculture Awareness Day on Friday, October 11, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event, organized by Agriculture in the Classroom, is designed to educate the public on the importance of agriculture in everyday life.

The Coliseum will feature a wide array of exhibits, including Geological Soils, presented by the Oil Museum of Canada, and displays from the St. Clair Regional Conservation Authority. Attendees can also visit the Workplace Safety & Prevention Services booth and explore farm machinery cost comparisons. Other highlights include the Jansen Homestead and Highlands display, miniature farm machinery, corn shelling demonstrations, Atoucha Honey, Garden to Table education, and discussions on gluten-free diets, backyard chickens, composting, and soil health. Additionally, a comparison of Jansen Tractor Sales to Great West Realty will be presented.

In Cattle Barn #1, visitors will find exhibits from Forbesvue Farms (dairy), the Lambton Cattlemen’s Association (beef), and the Lambton Pork Producers, along with a Community Wildlife Management Workshop.

The Horse Barn will showcase Haflingers from Beaver Meadows, Percherons from Veralane, and draft mules from Bear Creek Stables.

Sheep Barn exhibits will include the Brigden 4-H Sheep Club, District 1 of Ontario Sheep, and MorLo Goats.

The Jr. Fair Building will host butter-making demonstrations by the Moore Museum, a replica cow milking exhibit from Lambton Dairy, and presentations from the Lambton 4-H Club. Attendees can also explore Food Farm Care Ontario’s 360-degree virtual reality kiosk.

Emergency responders will be on-site, with the St. Clair Fire Department offering fire extinguisher demonstrations and a smoke house for educational purposes. The Ontario Provincial Police will also be present with their vehicles, and antique farm machinery will be on display, along with a trashing demonstration.

Cattle Barn #2 will feature the Ploughman’s Farmyard.

This event offers a comprehensive look into various aspects of agriculture, making it an informative day for families, students, and community members alike.
