OPP officials allege: The Middlesex Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the individual(s) responsible for throwing debris off highway overpasses in the City of London.
On October 12, 2024, at approximately 2:30 a.m., members of the Middlesex OPP were dispatched to the eastbound Highway 401 near Old Victoria Road after receiving a report that a pumpkin struck a windshield of transport truck causing extensive damage.
Additionally, at approximately 3:10 a.m., the Middlesex OPP were dispatched to the eastbound Highway 402 near White Oak Road after receiving two more reports of transport trucks being struck with pumpkins.
No injuries were reported by any of the vehicle occupants and in all three incidents the vehicles were able to safely pullover to the shoulder of the highway.
No description was able to be provided of the unknown individual(s) that attended the nearby overpasses and dropped the objects on the passing vehicles.
The investigation is ongoing.
These dangerous and reckless acts pose a serious threat to public safety. Behaviours like this can result in collisions, serious injuries and even fatalities.
