OPP officials: A multi-vehicle collision closed Highway 401 Westbound for approximately seven hours.
On December 5, 2024, at 1:08 p.m., members of the Middlesex and Oxford County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Middlesex-London Paramedic Service and Thames Centre fire were dispatched to the Westbound lanes of Highway 401 between Putnam Road and Pigram Line in Thames Centre for the report of a multi-vehicle collision blocking all three lanes.
As a result of the collision, one driver was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries. The injuries were later downgraded from life-threatening to serious.
The highway was closed between Highway 19 in Oxford County and Westchester Bourne for approximately seven hours, as tow companies removed the vehicles involved and officers assisted motorists off the highway at Culloden Road in Oxford County.
The area was experiencing snow squalls throughout the day.
The investigation is continuing.
