Rainfall and strong winds expected on Sunday

A special weather statement remains in place in Chatham-Kent, as rainfall and strong winds are expected on Sunday, March 16, 2025.

“The frozen ground has a reduced ability to absorb this rainfall,” forecasters say.

“Total rainfall amounts of 15 to 25 mm with locally higher amounts possible. Wind gusts of 70 to 80 km/h.”

Forecasters added: “Showers with a risk of thunderstorms are expected. The highest rainfall amounts are expected for areas that receive multiple thunderstorms. Strong southerly winds will ease tonight. Wind will shift to westerly with the passage of a cold front Sunday morning or afternoon kicking up strong wind gusts once again.”

Localized flooding in low-lying areas and water pooling on roads are possible, Environment Canada officials added.

“Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage. Utility outages may occur,” forecasters added.
