Talks, walks and ‘The Ambler’ magazine

Clair Culliford of The Veranda Presents has announced a series of Illustrated Talks, the launch of The Ambler magazine, and guided walks exploring downtown Chatham’s history and murals.

Illustrated Talks cover a range of topics, including famous figures, history, literature, ethics, and governance, accompanied by projected images. Admission is free.

The first talk, “A Stephen Leacock Celebration,” will explore the life and stories of the Canadian humorist, whose satirical works brought international fame between 1915 and 1925. It takes place Saturday, March 29, from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Chatham Library meeting room.

The second talk, “Robert Frost—The Poet & 14 Poems,” is set for Saturday, April 19, from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the same venue.

The Ambler is a weekly online publication featuring stories, entertainment, commentary, and more. It is available at https://theambler.ca and is free to access.

The first Downtown Chatham History Walk is scheduled for Saturday, April 5, from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Participants will visit downtown sites and hear stories about arson, haunted buildings, floods on the Thames River, shipbuilding, the opera house, and notable crimes. The walk begins under the Centennial Clock at the Downtown Chatham Centre at King Street West and Fifth Street.

The first Downtown Chatham Mural Walk will take place Saturday, April 12, from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., starting at the same location. Walkers will visit both new and historic murals while learning about their subjects and creation.

Walks will continue throughout the spring and summer. They are busking events, and participants are welcome to contribute if they enjoy the experience.
