Robbery with violence among the charges laid after an incident in Sarnia

Sarnia Police Service officials allege: On March 13, 2025 at 8:10 p.m., police were called to a theft complaint in the 500 block of Exmouth Street in Sarnia.

A male had entered the staff room of a retail store, stealing from staff member’s bags.

When confronted by security, the male attempted to punch security staff in the face with a closed fist.

Security stepped back to avoid being hit and police were called.

The male moved to the front of the store where he began punching the windows while threatening security.

Police arrived and observed the male suspect nearby in a parking lot.

He was stopped and placed under arrest but immediately resisted.

He was taken to the ground in order for the officer to gain control and affect the arrest.

During a subsequent search, while in handcuffs, the male attempted to flee on foot but was quickly restrained.

He continued to be disruptive throughout his time in custody.

Once completed, the search revealed a baggie of pills (Benzodiazepines), a scale, drug paraphernalia, counterfeit currency (2 X $100), a knife, and 5 X 12 gauge shotgun shells.

At the time of his arrest, investigation revealed that this male was out on bail with conditions to not possess any weapons.

As a result, a 24-year-old man of no fixed address, was held for bail on the following charges:

– Robbery with violence CC 343(a)

– Uttering Threats CC 264(2)(d)

– Failure to Comply with Release Order CC Sec. 145(5)(a)

– Resist Peace Officer CC 129(a)

– Escape lawful custody CC 145(1)

– Careless storage of ammunition CC 86(1)

– Possessing Counterfeit Money CC 450 (b)

– Possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking CDSA 5(2)

He was remanded into custody following his bail hearing.

“Seemingly ‘minor’ crimes are often intertwined with serious issues of recidivism, weapons, violence and illegal substances. Our officers, including our Community Crime Unit, work to ensure that lower priority crimes are not overlooked. We are committed to holding offenders accountable within the law, and bringing them before the courts,” stated Chief Derek Davis, in a media release.
