Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On February 12, 2025, at approximately 12:46 p.m., the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a report of theft and mischief.
A complainant, a 23-year-old male from Chatham, reported that a male party removed wires from light poles at a property located on Gregory Drive East, Chatham.
The male suspect tampered with a light pole on the north side of the property, removing a wiring box and cutting wires, which damaged the system and disabled the lights.
Then the suspect moved to two additional poles on the southwest side of the property, cutting and removing more wiring, further disabling the lighting system.
The male party removed approximately 40 to 50 feet of wiring.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service obtained surveillance footage showing a white SUV arriving with a male and female entering and exiting the vehicle within 15 minutes of being on the property.
An Ontario license plate was observed and recorded from the footage.
On April 3, 2025, at approximately 12:28 p.m., a 25-year-old male from Chatham was arrested at the Chatham-Kent Police Service headquarters in connection with the wiring theft on Gregory Drive East, Chatham.
He was charged with the following:
– Theft Over $5000
– Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000
– Mischief Over $5000
He was released with a future court date scheduled for May 5, 2025.
