Transport and freight train collide in Sarnia

Sarnia Police Service officials allege: In the early morning of April 8, 2025, Sarnia Police responded to a motor vehicle collision in the area of Lasalle Line and Tashmoo Road, where a transport truck was struck by a freight train while crossing the tracks.

The truck was not carrying any cargo at the time.

No injuries were reported.

However, due to the severity of the damage and the vehicles involved, Lasalle Line between Vidal Street South and Tashmoo Avenue was closed for investigation, clean up and repairs.

At the conclusion of the investigation a 61-year-old male driver was charged under the Highway Traffic Act for the offences of “disobey railway crossing signal – proceed unsafely” and “careless driving”.

At this time clean up efforts are still underway and Lasalle line remains closed to facilitate the repairs to the railway and an update will be provided once it has re-opened.

The Sarnia Police Service would like to take this opportunity to remind drivers and pedestrians alike of the dangers of railway crossings.

Trains move faster and quieter than expected; staying alert at crossings is critical for everyone’s safety.

Whether on foot or behind the wheel, always obey signals and approach with caution.
