Dresden seeking artists for community banner series

Artists, photographers, and illustrators are invited to submit proposals for a new Community Banner Series in downtown Dresden. The project will feature 36 original street banners to be installed on light poles throughout the town.

The initiative is open to both emerging and established artists, as well as community members and local groups. Selected artists will receive $50 plus HST for each accepted submission. Fabrication and installation costs are covered by the Dresden BIA through the Chatham-Kent Ward Funding Grant.

The banner series aims to celebrate Dresden’s culture, attractions, events, local flavours, and shopping experiences, while bringing colour and community pride to the streets. Designs may be newly created or existing work that aligns with the project themes. Banners will remain on display for approximately three years.

Artists are required to submit high-resolution digital files of up to six designs along with an artist statement. Final selections will be made by a public art jury, with approval from the Dresden BIA.

The deadline for submissions is April 30 at 4 p.m. EDT. Shortlisted artists will be contacted the week of May 12, 2025.
