Walpole Island firefighters battle ‘significant’ marsh fire

On Monday evening, April 14, 2025 the Walpole Island Fire Department responded to a significant marsh fire located on the south end of Walpole Island.

“After carefully assessing the wind direction and fuel load, it was determined that there was no immediate threat to nearby residences,” fire officials posted on social media.

“As a precautionary measure, a controlled burn was conducted to protect critical hydro infrastructure, including poles and wires. The operation was successfully executed, and no damage was sustained to any hydro equipment or fire department personnel.”
