Canadians who want to vote by special ballot in the upcoming federal election have until 6 p.m. local time on Tuesday, April 22, to apply, Elections Canada says.
Electors can cast a special ballot in person at any local Elections Canada office across the country, which are open seven days a week. To find the nearest office, voters can visit elections.ca and enter the postal code of where they will be when they vote.
Those opting to vote by special ballot through the mail are urged to act quickly, as time is running out. Elections Canada warns it may be too late for many voters to successfully complete the process by mail, which includes receiving a voting kit and returning the completed ballot before the election day deadline.
Completed special ballots must be received by Elections Canada by the time polls close on election day, Monday, April 28. Ballots received after that time will not be counted.
Voters who have already applied to vote by special ballot from within their riding can return their completed ballots in person at their local Elections Canada office before polls close.
Also, Canadians will have four days to cast their ballot early in the 45th federal general election, with advance voting set for this weekend.
Elections Canada says advance polls will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. local time on Friday, April 18; Saturday, April 19; Sunday, April 20; and Monday, April 21.
Unlike some provincial or municipal elections, voters in federal elections must cast their ballot at their assigned polling station. Electors can find their station’s address on the back of their voter information card, online at elections.ca by entering their postal code, or by calling 1-800-463-6868.
To vote, electors must bring ID to prove their identity and address. A full list of accepted identification is available online.
In addition to advance polls, early voting is also available at any Elections Canada office until Tuesday, April 22 at 6 p.m. local time. Voters may also apply to vote by mail before that same deadline, but must ensure their special ballot is returned on time. Ballots can be mailed or dropped off in person at a local Elections Canada office before polls close on election day.
Elections Canada is also recruiting workers for a range of paid positions during the election. Those interested in working the vote can apply online or contact their local office.

Five candidates have been confirmed in the Chatham-Kent–Leamington riding for this month’s election:
