Applications being accepted for Emerging Youth Artist Scholarship Awards

The Chatham-Kent Arts & Culture Network has announced the return of the Emerging Youth Artist Scholarship Awards program.

Introduced in 2024, the scholarship supports Chatham-Kent youth studying fulltime in the arts & culture field at the post-secondary level.

This year, two awards of $1,500 each will be granted to graduating or recently graduated high school students from any secondary school in Chatham-Kent. In 2024, the inaugural scholarships were awarded to Teryn Romanick and Thomas Martin.

“We are excited to once again support young talent in CK. The importance of supporting emerging artists through programs like our artist scholarship cannot be emphasized enough, says Laurie Langford, Board Chair, Chatham-Kent Arts Council. “It is critical to the development of careers, and the future of the creative sector. Students working and studying in all disciplines and mediums are encouraged to apply. We look forward to seeing the breadth of work submitted by this year’s applicants.”

The Emerging Youth Artist Scholarship is open to students, aged 16 to 20, working and studying in all artistic and arts-related disciplines ranging from the performing and literary arts to arts administration and the recording arts. Applicants must send in their submissions by 11:59 pm June 13, 2025, to the Chatham -Kent Arts Council.

Applicants must include a minimum of three works; we encourage students to submit a variety of works in their area of expertise.

If selected for an interview, applicants must be available for an interview with the Chatham-Kent Arts Council’s Adjudication Committee, to be scheduled by June 20.

Before funds can be released, the successful recipient must, by September 1, 2025, provide proof of registration from a post-secondary institution.

The two winners will be recognized at the Chatham-Kent Arts Council’s Heroes Wall of Fame event on October 23, 2025, at the Chatham Cultural Centre.

Applications will be assessed by the Scholarship Committee consisting of CKACN Board Members and the CK Arts & Culture Heroes committee.
