A new exhibit at the Wallaceburg and District Museum is giving visitors a rare opportunity to see — and touch — real mastodon bones found locally.
The hands-on display features an atlas vertebra, a vertebra, a mastodon tusk, and actual mastodon teeth, all uncovered in the Wallaceburg area.
Museum staff say the exhibit is designed to appeal to visitors of all ages, offering a unique way to connect with a creature that roamed the region thousands of years ago during the Ice Age.
The museum, located at 505 King Street, is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free, though donations are welcomed.
