Police seize $52K in drugs, lay charges after Chatham bust

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Four people face drug and weapons charges following a police raid in Chatham that resulted in the seizure of fentanyl, methamphetamine and replica firearms.

Chatham-Kent police say members of the Intelligence Unit and Emergency Response Team executed a search warrant under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act at a residence on May 1 around 8:58 p.m. A second warrant was carried out on a vehicle linked to the investigation.

Officers arrested several individuals inside the home and seized an estimated $52,000 worth of drugs, including 258 grams of fentanyl and 11 grams of methamphetamine.

Police also recovered packaging materials, digital scales, a debt list, a large amount of Canadian currency, and four BB guns — three of which resembled handguns and one a rifle.

A 49-year-old woman from Chatham was charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking.

A 41-year-old man from Chatham was charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, five counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order, and two counts of failing to comply with a release order.

A 46-year-old man and a 43-year-old man, both from Chatham, were each charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking and one count of possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order.

All four remain in custody pending bail hearings.
