Assault causing bodily harm charge laid after a stabbing in Sarnia

Sarnia Police Service officials allege: On May 17, 2025 at 12:20 a.m., police were called to Canatara Park for an assault.

Multiple SPS units responded and located a group of people near the pavilion in the main park area.

A 17-year-old male was observed laying on his back with a single stab wound to his upper arm.

Officers provided first aid pending the arrival of EMS.

He was transported to hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Investigation revealed that two males, not known to each other, had become involved in a verbal altercation after the accused perceived a slight.

A physical fight ensued during which time the male produced a knife, stabbing the victim in the upper arm.

The male then fled the scene.

Further investigation resulted in the male being identified.

A small knife was recovered at the scene.

Later that morning an 18-year-old Sarnia man surrendered himself at Sarnia Police HQ.

He was charged with Assault Causing Bodily Harm and released on a police issued Undertaking (with court date and conditions).
