At the Lambton Kent District School Board (LKDSB), we are proud to recognize and celebrate Pride Season as part of our ongoing commitment to fostering safe, inclusive, and welcoming learning environments for all.
Pride Season begins each year on May 17, with the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia (IDAHOBIT)—a day that invites reflection on the importance of dignity, respect, and equity for all individuals, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression. This important day marks the beginning of a season of learning, celebration, and community engagement that continues through Pride Month in June and into.
Throughout this season, we have meaningful opportunities to come together in support of human rights and belonging. Events such as the Sarnia Pride Parade on July 13 and the Chatham Pride Parade on August 16 offer joyful, community-centered ways to celebrate diversity and affirm the identities of 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals and families.
These celebrations are more than symbolic—they are part of our shared responsibility to ensure that every student, staff member, and family in our school communities feels safe, accepted, and empowered to be their authentic self. Pride Season also serves as a valuable time for learning and reflection, helping us to better understand the historical and ongoing challenges faced by members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
At LKDSB, we believe that equity and inclusion are fundamental to education. By participating in Pride Season, we affirm our commitment to upholding the basic human rights of all individuals and to nurturing a culture where everyone can thrive.
Let us celebrate this season with pride, compassion, and a shared dedication to building a more inclusive future—together.
