Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: A man is facing several charges after allegedly fleeing police and crashing a motorcycle during an investigation tied to a theft in Tilbury.
Police say officers responded to a theft report at a retail store on Queen Street North, where a suspect allegedly took merchandise without paying.
Officers later attempted to stop a motorcycle matching the suspect’s description, but the driver fled. The motorcycle was later found on its side on Middle Line, east of King and Whittle Road, with the driver no longer at the scene.
With assistance from the Ontario Provincial Police Essex detachment, the suspect was located on Talbot Street South in Essex.
The man was charged with flight from a peace officer, failing to remain at the scene of an accident, failing to report an accident, driving without a proper licence and operating a vehicle without insurance.
He later surrendered to police on March 1 and was released with a court date of April 27, 2026.
