On May 3, 2025 CK Fire participated in the Wheatley Public Safety Event at the Village Resource Centre in support of Emergency Management for Emergency Preparedness Week.
Community members were invited to enjoy a barbecue, tour emergency vehicles, utilize the sports equipment and toys with the Play Rangers and collect resources from multiple public safety community partners.
“The event was aimed to remind families about being prepared,” explains Emergency Management Coordinator Allison Phillipps, in a media release.
“Every family should have a 72-hour emergency kit, also known as a GO bag, which is a portable collection of essential supplies designed to sustain you and your family for three days in the event of an emergency or disaster when help from emergency responders might be delayed.”
At the Emergency Management booth information was distributed about the 72-hour Emergency Preparedness Kit, residents could have assistance with signing up for the new CKAlert Emergency Notification System and they could take home a water-resistant folder containing a list of important documents to prepare in advance of an emergency.
Despite the rainy weather, many of the attractions could be held inside and Wheatley residents came out to support the event.
