SIU seeks information in sexual assault investigation involving former Chatham-Kent officer

The Special Investigations Unit is appealing to the public for information that could assist an ongoing sexual assault investigation involving former Chatham-Kent police officer Kenneth Miller.

In a news release issued June 22, the Special Investigations Unit said it recognizes that experiences of sexual violence can be deeply personal and difficult to speak about.

“There is no time limit to report sexual assault, and individuals may choose whether, how, and when they wish to share information,” the SIU said. “Coming forward is entirely voluntary.”

The SIU is asking anyone who believes they may have been affected, or who has information that could assist the investigation, to contact the agency confidentially by phone at 1-800-787-8529 or online through its appeals page at the SIU website.

The agency also noted that support services are available to individuals impacted by incidents under SIU investigation through its Affected Persons Program.

“If you or someone you know has been impacted by an incident under SIU investigation and would like emotional or practical support, the SIU’s Affected Persons Program offers free, confidential assistance 24 hours a day, 7 days a week,” the SIU said.

The appeal follows an earlier announcement by the SIU that Kenneth Miller, a former Chatham-Kent police officer, had been charged in connection with the sexual assault investigation.
