Arrest made stemming from a 2021 disturbance at a Chatham motel

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On August 5, 2021, police responded to a disturbance at a local motel.

The manager was involved in a verbal dispute with a man concerning his behaviour on the property.

During the encounter, the man became aggressive, assaulting the victim by grabbing, punching, and pulling her hair.

Motel staff intervened to assist the victim and restrained the man until the police arrived.

He was arrested and subsequently transported to police headquarters for processing.

While in custody, the man engaged in destructive behaviour, rendered a holding cell inoperable, leading to an additional charge of Mischief Under $5,000.

The man was released with a future court date.

When he failed to attend a scheduled court appearance on August 31, 2022, a warrant was issued for his arrest.

On July 2, 2025, the Waterloo Regional Police Service arrested the man for outstanding warrants related to these offences.

He has since been returned to Chatham-Kent Police and is currently being held pending a bail hearing.
