Impaired driving charges laid after a near-crash with a cruiser

Sarnia Police Service officials allege: On July 5, 2025 at 8:40pm, a patrol officer was travelling northbound on Christina Street at George Street.

While proceeding through the curve, a southbound pickup truck was observed.

As the vehicles approached each other, the pickup drifted into the cruiser’s northbound lane, causing the officer to swerve into the marked parking area to avoid a collision.

The officer stopped the pickup and observed the driver to display signs of intoxication by alcohol.

The driver was placed under arrest and later provided two samples of breath (230 and 220 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood). This was almost three times the legal limit of 80 mg.

A 48-year-old Sarnia man has been charged with Impaired Operation and Over .08.

Impaired driving is considered a crime in progress.

Operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs significantly reduces a driver’s reaction time, coordination, and judgment—endangering not only the driver but also passengers, other motorists, and pedestrians.

Impaired driving will lead to criminal charges, licence suspension, vehicle impoundment, and serious injury or death.

Anyone who suspects impaired driving is urged to call 911 immediately.
