Blenheim woman wins $250,000 lottery prize

A Blenheim retiree is celebrating a life-changing windfall after winning the $250,000 top prize with INSTANT CROSSWORD DELUXE.

Deborah Newton has been playing OLG lottery games for nearly 25 years, regularly buying tickets for LOTTO MAX, LOTTO 6/49, and various INSTANT games—Instant Crossword being a longtime favourite.

“I was at home when I played my ticket and discovered it was a winner,” Newton said while visiting the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto. “At first, I thought I’d won $25,000 and was so excited.”

But when she took the ticket to a store to validate it, the surprise got even bigger.

“I saw the prize amount on the screen and realized I’d actually won $250,000!” she said. “It was a jaw-dropping moment. I was surprised and very happy.”

Newton shared the good news with her partner by showing him the validation slip. “He was just as shocked as I was,” she said. “Later, I told my friends about my win, and they all congratulated me.”

With her winnings, she plans to buy a new vehicle, do some home renovations and invest for the future.

The winning ticket was purchased at Morning Calm Convenience on Talbot Street in Blenheim.

INSTANT CROSSWORD DELUXE costs $10 per play and offers a top prize of $250,000. The odds of winning any prize are 1 in 3.46. More information on this and other OLG games is available at OLG.ca.
