The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is seeking public input as it reviews its Vehicle for Hire By-law, which regulates taxis, ride-share services and other private vehicle-for-hire operations in the community.
Originally passed in 2018, the bylaw is being updated to reflect the current and future needs of residents and service providers. Proposed changes include revised licensing fees, the addition of mandatory vulnerable sector checks for drivers, and a new section detailing the process when a cab owner ceases to be licensed.
A draft of the revised bylaw, proposed set fines, and amendments to user fees are available on the municipality’s online engagement platform.
Residents can provide feedback by attending a public meeting held July 24 at 4 p.m. at the Civic Centre in Chatham or by submitting written comments to cklicensing@chatham-kent.ca.
A survey is also available online at letstalkchatham-kent.ca/vehicle-for-hire, and comments will be accepted until July 30 at midnight.
Following the review period, municipal staff will compile public feedback and present the updated bylaw to council for consideration.
