Sarnia police arrest man in connection with vehicle and bicycle thefts

Sarnia Police Service officias allege: A 41-year-old man with no fixed address is facing several charges following a series of thefts in the city earlier this month.

The Sarnia Police Service launched an investigation in early July after receiving multiple reports of thefts from vehicles and stolen bicycles. On July 10, a suspect was captured on residential video surveillance stealing from vehicles in the Rapids Parkway area. The following day, another individual was arrested for allegedly using credit cards taken during the thefts.

That arrest led investigators in the Community Crime Unit and Intelligence Unit to identify a second suspect, now believed to be involved in additional thefts between July 6 and July 22. In those incidents, a male suspect reportedly stole three locked bicycles from outside retail locations on London Road and Indian Road South.

Police say the man was also subject to multiple probation orders at the time of the offences. He was arrested on July 24 and held for a bail hearing the next day.

He is charged with six counts of theft under $5,000 and eight counts of failing to comply with a probation order. He was released by the court on July 25 with conditions and is scheduled to appear again on Aug. 21.
