Weapons charges laid in Chatham after threats were made with a crossbow

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On July 31, 2025, the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a report of a weapon-related incident.

A 34-year-old female from Chatham reported being threatened with a crossbow by a 24-year-old male also from Chatham.

Upon arrival, police secured the area and attended the scene on foot to set up containment around the residence.

Officers directed the occupants to exit the residence due to the safety concerns.

The male individual refused to comply, which prompted officers to deploy a Conducted Energy Weapon (CEW), to facilitate a safe arrest.

The individual later surrendered without incident and was arrested.

Further investigation revealed that the individual had made prior threats to others within the residence, including pointing a loaded crossbow towards individuals.

It was also determined that the individual is currently bound by conditions prohibiting the possession of weapons as well.

He is currently facing the following charges:

– Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose

– Assault with a Weapon

– Failure to comply with Release Order- other than to attend court

– Possession of Ammunition contrary to a Probation Order

– Adult Uttering Threats- Cause Death or Bodily Harm

Subsequently he was transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters, where he is currently in custody and is held for bail.
