The Port Lambton Pirates U18 Rep team has made history, winning the village’s first-ever Ontario Baseball Association “A” level provincial championship.
Designated a “D” level centre, Port Lambton entered the higher-tier “A” tournament to challenge larger centres such as Windsor, London, Ajax, Barrie and Stratford. The Pirates went undefeated through the weekend and clinched the title with an 8th-inning walk-off victory over host Stratford, the defending champions.
Tournament MVP Ethan hit .500 with seven RBIs, while Nate belted a two-run homer in the final and Jace drove in the winning run with a bunt. Strong pitching was a hallmark of the Pirates’ run, with Jacob and Jake each throwing complete games and Graeme striking out 12 across his outings.
Third-year players Caleb, Jacob, Jake and Reid anchored the roster, with Reid scoring 10 runs and Jacob posting a perfect ERA. First-year players also delivered, including Matt, who made a game-saving catch, and Seth, who hit two doubles and scored four runs.
The Pirates were led by coaches Chris Bonneau, Jake Prudom, Alan Hillis and Nash Lane.
