Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Chatham-Kent police say four men are facing charges following separate impaired driving incidents reported over the weekend.
On Friday evening, officers responded to Fairview Line in Harwich Township after receiving a call about a vehicle stopped at a stop sign with the driver appearing unconscious. Police say a 36-year-old Wallaceburg man was found in the driver’s seat with tin foil in his lap and appeared impaired by drugs. He was charged with operating a motor vehicle while having a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit and released with a court date set for Sept. 8.
In the early hours of Saturday morning, police were called to Charing Cross Road in Harwich Township after reports of a driver asleep at the wheel and blocking traffic. Officers arrested a 19-year-old Harwich Township man, who later failed breath tests. He was charged and released with a court date of Sept. 9.
On Sunday at about 1:15 a.m., officers attempted to stop a vehicle on Forest Street in Chatham. Police say the driver fled on foot but was quickly apprehended and determined to be impaired. A 40-year-old Chatham man was charged with impaired driving, operating a motor vehicle while over the legal limit, and obstructing a peace officer. He was released with a Sept. 9 court date.
A short time later, police stopped another vehicle on Queen Street in Chatham. Officers believed the driver was impaired and arrested a 21-year-old Blenheim man, who was also found to be a novice driver with alcohol in his system. He was charged and released with a court date of Sept. 9.
Police say they remain committed to road safety and encourage residents to report suspected impaired driving.
