Youth charged with failing to attend court stemming from 2023 assault

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On October 1, 2023, at approximately 12 a.m., two male victims, who had just attended a wedding event at a downtown venue, walked towards Tecumseh Park.

Upon reaching the bandshell, they were confronted by a large group of youth who demanded money and a vape.

As the victims attempted to leave the situation to avoid confrontation, they were assaulted by the youth.

The attack resulted in serious injuries for one of the victims.

Following the incident, police conducted an investigation that led to the identification of the suspects involved, and several arrests were made.

On August 27, 2025, at 11:24 a.m., police received a report regarding unwanted individuals at a residence on Wedgewood Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers located a 14-year-old male youth who was the subject of an arrest warrant due to his failure to attend a scheduled court appearance related to the earlier assault.

The youth was arrested and transported to police headquarters, where he was later released to a parent with conditions.

He is scheduled to appear in court again on September 24, 2025.
