Driver charged after erratic driving and drug impairment incident

Sarnia Police Service officials allege: A woman is facing several charges after Sarnia police say she was seen driving erratically on Exmouth Street Wednesday afternoon.

Police say they were called around 4:45 p.m. on Sept. 3 after reports of a vehicle being driven through stop signs and over curbs near the Shoppers Drug Mart. An off-duty Sarnia police officer and a citizen observed the vehicle and followed it until on-duty officers arrived.

The vehicle was stopped near Rosedale Avenue, where officers say they saw fresh damage to the car, drug paraphernalia and signs of drug impairment.

Given her condition, possible substance use and concerns for her safety, the woman was taken to Bluewater Health for medical attention. A drug recognition expert later determined she was impaired by drugs.

Police say the woman was under probation and subject to court-ordered driving prohibitions at the time of the incident.

A 29-year-old Sarnia woman has been charged with four counts of operating a motor vehicle while prohibited, two counts of failing to comply with a probation order, failing to comply with a release order, operating while impaired by drugs, and operating while impaired by blood drug concentration.

She was held for a bail hearing and later released by the court with conditions.
