Sarnia Police Service officials allege: Police say no charges are expected after a 32-year-old Sarnia man was struck and killed by a vehicle on East Street North earlier this month.
On Sept. 13 around 11 p.m., officers were called to the scene where the man had been hit by a southbound vehicle. When police arrived, they found the victim lying injured in the roadway as two off-duty nurses performed CPR. Lambton EMS and Sarnia Fire then took over life-saving measures, but the man was pronounced dead shortly afterward.
Investigators conducted a forensic examination of the scene, interviewed witnesses, canvassed the area and reviewed video footage. Police said the man was wearing dark clothing and had entered the roadway, where he either went down on one knee or bent into a kneeling position for reasons unknown.
The vehicle struck him in the southbound lane. According to police, there was no evidence of emergency steering or braking at the scene, nor was any seen in witness video. The driver stopped immediately and cooperated with the investigation.
Police said speed was not a factor and video evidence supported the accounts of witnesses. “At this time, no charges are anticipated in this matter,” the update stated.
