Two killed in separate crashes in Chatham-Kent

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Two people have died in separate motor vehicle collisions in Chatham-Kent over the past week.

On Sept. 15 at about 11:16 a.m., police responded to a collision on St. Clair Street in Chatham involving a semi-truck and a cyclist. Investigators said the truck was operated by a 40-year-old London woman, while the cyclist was a 38-year-old Chatham-Kent man.

The man was transported to Chatham-Kent Health Alliance with life-threatening injuries and later transferred to Windsor Regional Hospital. Police confirmed that on Sept. 19 he succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the truck was not injured.

Due to the severity of the crash, the Traffic Management Unit was called in to investigate. Police said the investigation remains ongoing and are asking anyone with information to contact Const. Brandon McKeen at brandonmc@chatham-kent.ca

In a separate incident, on Sept. 21 at about 1:31 a.m., police responded to a single-vehicle collision on Creek Road near Maynard Line after receiving an automatic crash alert.

Officers and emergency crews arrived to find a vehicle had left the roadway and struck a residence. A 23-year-old Tilbury woman, who was a passenger, was taken to Chatham-Kent Health Alliance and later transferred to London Health Sciences Centre with life-threatening injuries. Police said she died as a result of those injuries.

A 24-year-old man was also taken to Chatham-Kent Health Alliance with minor injuries.
