Two seriously injured in separate dirt bike crashes in Chatham-Kent

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Two people were seriously injured in separate dirt bike crashes in Chatham-Kent on Sept. 19.

The first collision happened at about 6:37 p.m. at the intersection of St. George Street and Lindsey Road in Dresden. Police said it involved an SUV driven by a 58-year-old Wallaceburg man and a dirt bike operated by a 15-year-old Dover Township youth.

The youth was taken to Chatham-Kent Health Alliance before being transferred to London Health Sciences Centre with life-threatening injuries. The SUV driver was not hurt.

Due to the severity of the injuries, the Traffic Management Unit was called in to take over the investigation. Police said the case remains under investigation and anyone with information is asked to contact Const. Joel Rehill at joelr@chatham-kent.ca

Later the same evening, at about 8:16 p.m., police responded to a single-vehicle crash in the parking lot of Enbridge on Kiel Drive in Chatham. Investigators said a 32-year-old Chatham man lost control while operating a dirt bike and was thrown from the vehicle.

He was transported to Chatham-Kent Health Alliance and later transferred to Windsor Regional Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The Traffic Management Unit is also investigating this collision, which remains ongoing. Police are asking anyone with information to contact Const. Joel Rehill or the traffic office.
