Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm warning after a system stalled over Dresden Wednesday afternoon, bringing the threat of heavy rainfall and flash flooding.
At 3:42 p.m., meteorologists were tracking a nearly stationary storm cell near the community, capable of dumping 50 to 75 millimetres of rain. The agency warned that downpours could quickly reduce visibility and cause localized flooding.
Officials urged residents to take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Emergency Management Ontario also reminded the public to protect themselves from flying debris and other hazards associated with severe thunderstorms.
Environment Canada issues severe thunderstorm warnings when storms are imminent or already occurring and are likely to bring damaging hail, wind or heavy rain.
