Altercation in Wheatley leads to assault charges

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: A 65-year-old Wheatley man is facing charges following an altercation early Thursday morning that left another man injured.

Police were called to Walker Avenue in Wheatley around 3:46 a.m. on October 9 after receiving a report of a disturbance.

Investigators determined that a physical altercation had occurred between a 65-year-old man from Wheatley and a 45-year-old man from Leamington.

When officers arrived, they found the younger man suffering from non-life-threatening injuries. He was transported to hospital for further medical attention.

The 65-year-old was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm. He was taken to Chatham-Kent Police Service headquarters, where he remains in custody pending a bail hearing.
