Free seminar offers information, support for prostate cancer awareness

A free prostate cancer information seminar will be held Tuesday, December 2 from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church Hall, 466 John Street in Port Lambton.

The event will feature John Oliveira, founder of the LSW Prostate Cancer Support Groups and a prostate cancer survivor. Diagnosed with stage 3 prostate cancer at age 46, Oliveira underwent chemotherapy, hormone therapy and surgery before starting local support groups to help other men navigate their cancer journey.

He now facilitates three groups in London, Sarnia and Wallaceburg, which together include more than 275 members. The groups also host men’s health fairs, awareness events and presentations across the region. Oliveira is active with the Dash for Dad campaign, which has raised more than $1.8 million for prostate cancer research, and supports the Wallaceburg Hospital Redevelopment Project through “A Night of Comedy.”

The seminar is open to all men and women and is sponsored by the Knights of Columbus Council 10873, Port Lambton. For more information, contact John Oliveira at 519-365-1599 or visit www.pcsupportgroup.ca.
