Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Two Chatham-Kent men have been charged after an early-morning fire outside a Fourth Street business last week.
Chatham-Kent Fire and police were called to the scene around 4:57 a.m. on Nov. 28 after a fire was reported outside the building. Fire crews quickly extinguished the flames, preventing further damage or injuries.
Police say two men used several garbage bins and cardboard to ignite the fire, which caused burns to the property and brought flames close to the building’s exterior wall. No injuries were reported.
Investigators identified both suspects. A 22-year-old Chatham-Kent man was arrested on Dec. 1, and a second suspect, a 29-year-old man, was arrested the next day. Both have been charged with arson and remain in custody awaiting bail hearings.
