Sarnia Police Service officials allege: A man was arrested Monday afternoon after police were called to a Christina Street fast-food restaurant for a wellbeing check that led to the discovery of suspected drugs.
Police were called around 1:54 p.m. on Dec. 1 after a man entered the restaurant’s bathroom and did not respond to knocks on the door. Officers arrived within minutes, announced their presence and, receiving no response, used a key to enter to ensure the man’s safety.
He was found lying face down on the floor. Officers placed him in the recovery position, and he soon regained consciousness and refused ambulance care.
Police say the man was identified and found to be wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant related to a Nov. 14 break-and-enter at a London Line motel. He was arrested on the strength of the warrant.
A search following the arrest led to the seizure of 22 grams of fentanyl, a small quantity of methamphetamine, hydromorphone pills and other items associated with drug trafficking. The estimated street value of the drugs is about $4,000.
At the time of these offences, the man was subject to multiple probation orders.
A 35-year-old man with no fixed address is charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking (fentanyl) and two counts of breaching probation. His bail hearing also addressed the outstanding charges from Nov. 14, including break and enter, mischief under $5,000 and two counts of breaching probation.
The man was remanded into custody following his court appearance. Police say he has had 29 interactions with officers since December 2024, including six arrests and 16 charges, nine of which involve violations of court-imposed conditions.
