LKDSB launches new School Ambassador Program to highlight student life

The Lambton Kent District School Board is inviting secondary students to step into the spotlight as part of its new School Ambassador Program, an initiative aimed at showcasing the daily life, learning and creativity taking place in local schools.

Beginning this month, the board will select a team of student ambassadors from each secondary school to act as digital storytellers for their communities. The ambassadors will capture student experiences through photos and short videos that will be woven into a promotional video highlighting what makes each school unique. The finished videos will be shared with students and families in feeder schools to offer a genuine look at secondary school life.

“This program has the opportunity to empower students to tell their own stories,” said Gary Girardi, LKDSB director of education. “We have incredibly talented students and wonderful things happening in our schools every day. This initiative gives students real, in-the-field mentorship while allowing them to create something from their unique student lens.”

Ambassadors will receive support from LKDSB staff and alumni professionals throughout the project, gaining hands-on experience in media creation and leadership. The year will wrap up with a film festival and student dinner in June, where the ambassadors’ work will be showcased for families, local leaders and board staff.

This is the inaugural year for what the board intends to establish as an annual program, led by the LKDSB Student Senate with support from the director’s office and secondary program.

Students interested in participating can apply online between Dec. 1 and Dec. 15 at LKDSB.net/SchoolAmbassador.
