Walpole Island firefighters battle late-night blaze at two-storey home

Walpole Island Fire Department crews spent more than four hours Thursday night working to bring a structure fire under control after being dispatched to a reported house fire with possible entrapment.

Firefighters were called just after 9:30 p.m. and arrived to find a two-storey residence fully engulfed. A full 360-degree assessment confirmed that no one was inside the home. With assistance from police, all residents were located and accounted for.

Crews began suppression operations, working through difficult hot spots as the fire continued to burn. The blaze was brought under control after several hours of sustained efforts.

All firefighters returned safely to the station, and no injuries were reported. Officials commended the work of everyone involved in the response.
