COVID-19 outbreak declared on Unit 6 West at Riverview Gardens

Riverview Gardens is implementing enhanced safety measures after CK Public Health declared a COVID-19 outbreak on Unit 6 West. The long-term care home shared the update Wednesday afternoon.

According to the long-term care home at 519 King Street West in Chatham, visitors are asked to postpone all non-essential visits to the affected unit. Surgical masks, provided at each entrance, must be worn at all times by anyone entering Unit 6 West.

Residents on the unit are not permitted to leave unless for medical or other essential reasons. Visitors who must attend are asked to see only one resident per visit.

For those visiting a resident who is isolated or ill, full personal protective equipment must be worn before entering the room and removed upon exiting. The home emphasized the importance of hand hygiene when entering and leaving the unit.

Activities will continue for residents on Unit 6 West who are not ill, and they are encouraged to wear a mask. Residents from other units will not be permitted to attend activities on the affected unit.

Riverview Gardens is reminding the public not to visit the home if they are feeling unwell and to practice good hand hygiene during visits.
