Chatham driver charged following traffic stop on Richmond Street

OPP officials allege: A Chatham driver is facing multiple charges following a traffic stop conducted by the Ontario Provincial Police late last month.

OPP said officers stopped a motor vehicle on Richmond Street in Chatham-Kent on Dec. 31, 2025, for a traffic infraction. The 33-year-old driver from Chatham was subsequently charged under the Highway Traffic Act with driving while under suspension and failing to apply for a permit on becoming an owner.

The driver was also charged under the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act for operating a motor vehicle without insurance. Police noted the offence carries a $5,000 fine upon conviction.

OPP reminded motorists to drive safely and ensure their vehicles and documentation comply with provincial requirements.
