Sarnia Police Service officials allege: Police arrested a 27-year-old man following an alleged retail theft in the Quinn Drive area on the evening of Jan. 6, 2026.
At approximately 8:55 p.m., uniformed officers on patrol observed a male known to them for previous retail thefts walking through a parking lot before entering a large retail store carrying an empty reusable grocery bag. A short time later, officers saw the same individual quickly exit the store with the bag now full.
Police stopped the man and determined the items inside the bag had been stolen. Officers recovered clothing valued at $142. Further investigation revealed the individual was bound by a probation order related to previous theft charges.
The 27-year-old, who has no fixed address, was arrested and held for a bail hearing on charges of theft, possession of stolen property and breach of probation. He was later released from court with conditions.
Police say the individual has had 97 interactions with police since January 2025, including 16 arrests and 43 charges. Those charges include multiple theft-related offences and several alleged violations of court-ordered conditions.
