Man critically injured in Sarnia stabbing, suspect in custody

Sarnia Police Service officials allege: Sarnia police are investigating a stabbing that left a man in critical condition early Friday morning.

Officers were called to a residence on Somerset Crescent at about 5:20 a.m. on Jan. 17 after receiving a report of a disturbance inside a basement apartment. When police arrived, they found an adult male suffering from a significant stab wound and bleeding heavily.

Police say responding officers provided life-saving first aid until emergency medical services arrived. The victim was taken to hospital in critical condition, where he remains receiving medical treatment.

A suspect was taken into custody without incident and transported to police headquarters. Police said the suspect remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing.

An increased police presence is expected in the area throughout the day as the investigation continues. Officers say additional information will be released when it becomes available.
